Rationale
No indications for CYP interaction Mainly excreted unmetabolized.
Chemical description
Parenteral carbapenem antibiotic, used (500 mg x 3) eg in septic cono dataitions, acute bacterial meningitis, serious beacterial pneumonia, complicated abdominal infections and post partum infections. Used also in children. Appearantly insignificant hepatic metabolism. Only one metabolite formed by hydrolysis of the beta-lactam ring. Mainly excreted in urine in unchanged form. Administered to one patient with AIP without porphyrinogenic ill effects: Kliasova GA et al. Use of meropenem in patients. (PMID 9532329):
