Extensively CYP 3A4 metabolised. Conflicting references. Some clinical experience of non-porphyrinogenicity.
Chemical description
Benzodiazepine derivative used in attacks of epilepsy. Its effect is based on enhancement of normal GABa transmission. Extensively metabolized via CYP 3A4, the main metabolite being 7-amino-clonazepam. EPI-list: safe South African list: use with care French list: use The Merck Manual: unsafe Australian list: unsafe. Andersson; patient inquiry: used without illeffects (n=2) Peters: According to our experience probably not porphyrinogenic See: Suzuki 1992, Chaix 1997. C.Andersson; patient report: tolerated (n=1). Used in porphyria ward (Sweden).
